Winehouse was married to Blake Fielder-Civil, who is said to have introduced her to hard drugs, for two years.  He is currently serving a prison term in England for theft.  Winehouse’s friends say that the singer “sorted out” her finances following her divorce, and drafted a new will to ensure that her ex-husband would receive no inheritance from her estate.

Much media attention has been given to the fact that Winehouse died at age 27, joining other famous musicians who died at the same age, including Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix and Jim Morrison of The Doors.  Hendrix died without a will, and rights to his musical legend continue to play out in court.  Joplin left everything to her parents and siblings.

When Morrison died in 1971, his will left everything to his long-time girlfriend, Pamela Courson.  Interestingly, Courson died of a heroin overdose two years later…at age 27.  What remained of Morrison’s estate then passed to her parents.  Morrison’s parents contested the original will in a California court, which eventually decided that a common law marriage did exist between Morrison and Courson in the state of Colorado, so her parents were the beneficiaries after her death.
