OldLoveNewlove1 123x150 Laguna Niguel Couple, Daughter Charged in Thefts from Elderly VictimsA Laguna Niguel woman who worked as an in-home caregiver to a number of Orange County elderly residents has been charged with stealing more than $600,000 from an 85-year-old client, according to a news report.  Her husband and daughter are also facing charges in the elder abuse scheme.

Norma Casini, 51, served as an in-home health aide through LivHome caregivers, and worked for the victim for almost three years.  She was fired from LivHome in March 2009 after the company learned she was not at the victim’s home during her shift.

Casini is facing 59 felony counts of fraud as well as sentencing enhancements for excessive theft of more than $100,000, property loss over $200,000 and white-collar crime over $500,000.  According to court documents, prosecutors allege that Casini stole more than $600,000 from the woman’s bank savings account and used her credit cards for personal use.  If she is convicted, she may be sentenced to up to 49 years and eight months in prison.

In addition, investigators say they have recovered dozens of pieces of jewelry and other valuables that lead them to believe Casini may have stolen from other elderly victims.

Casini’s husband, Leno Casini, 56, was also arrested and has been charged with two felony counts each of accessory after the fact and receiving stolen property and one felony count each of second-degree burglary and fraudulently using an access card.  Her daughter, Anastasia Darlena Mendezkestler, 22, has been charged with two felony counts each of accessory after the fact and receiving stolen property, second-degree commercial burglary, fraudulently using an access card and sentencing enhancements for loss over $100,000, property loss over $200,000 and white-collar crime over $500,000.

The investigation into additional victims is continuing. Anyone who believes they may have been a victim is asked to contact supervising district attorney investigator Eric Akerlind at 714-347-8691.
