A new fact sheet from the AARP highlights the important role Social Security plays in American’s retirement, but especially how important it is to keep women out of poverty.

According to the fact sheet, almost 25% of women over the age of 65 rely on Social Security for nearly all of their retirement income and another 26% rely on it for at least half of their retirement income.  Approximately 38% of American women 65+ are kept out of poverty by Social Security as well.
