  5. Elizabeth Taylor (tie)—$12 million
  6. John Lennon (tie)—$12 million
  7. Albert Einstein—$10 million
  8. Theodor Geisel (Dr. Seuss author)—$9 million
  9. Jimi Hendrix (tie)—$7 million
  10. Stieg Larsson (author, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo series) (tie)—$7 million
  11. Steve McQueen (tie)—$7 million
  12. Richard Rodgers (song writer) (tie)—$7 million
  13. George Harrison (tie)—$6 million
  14. Bettie Page (pinup girl, B-movie actress) (tie)—$6 million
  15. Andy Warhol (tie)—$6 million

Forbes compiles the list each October for the previous 12 months, and to make the list, a dead celebrity must have made at least $6 million during that time.  Forbes compiles data from agents, attorneys and other sources to estimate each celebrity’s gross earnings.
